A workshop on ''field robotics'' will take place on Oct 28-29 2011 at the LUMS School of Science & Engineering in the cultural heart of Pakistan, Lahore. The theme of the workshop is to introduce new and exciting areas of research in field and off-road robotics. The workshop will provide hands-on introduction to the development of autonomous ground vehicles for outdoor and off-road applications in robotics such as agricultural automation, landmine clearance, autonomous surveillance, terrain mapping and exploration. Topics covered in the workshop will include software and hardware architectures; sensing and perception; mapping and localization; terrain classification, traversal and navigation; and other issues related to the development of autonomous field robots. Workshop will feature tutorials, mini-courses and research presentations by experts in field robotics from University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. The workshop will also provide an opportunity for robotics researchers in Pakistan to exchange ideas and develop new collaborations in this emerging area.
