In 2009, he established CYPHYNETS, the Laboratory for Cyber Physical Networks and Systems at LUMS. He does fundamental research in robotics, cyber physical systems, hydro-systems and quantum information sciences. ڈاکٹر محمد ابوبکر لاہور یونیورسٹی آف مینیجمنٹ سائنسز، میں تدریس و تحقیق کے شعبے سے وابستہ ہیں۔ان کی علمی اور تحقیقی سرگرمیاں بالعموم الیکٹریکل انجینیرنگ اور ریاضی میں ہیں۔ بالخصوص وہ روبالیات ، مقداریہ طبیعات ، علم ہندسہ، نیٹ ورکس، اور انجینئرنگ کےدیگر شعبوں میں درپیش آنے والے ریاضیاتی مسئلوں پر تحقیق کررہے ہیں۔ انہوں نے 2005 میں امریکہ کی ریاست جارجیا میں قائم جارجیا انسٹیٹیوٹ آف ٹیکنالوجی سے الیکٹریکل انجینیرنگ کے شعبے میں پی۔ایچ۔ڈی کی ڈگری حاصل کی۔ اس سے پہلے انہوں نے جارجیا انسٹیٹیوٹ آف ٹیکنالوجی سے ہی ریاضی اور الیکٹریکل انجینیرنگ کے شعبوں میں ماسٹرز کی سندیں حاصل کیں۔ محمد ابوبکر نے ابتدائی تعلیم لاہور کی درس گاہوں بشمول کریسنٹ ماڈل سکول (1992)، گورنمنٹ کالج (1994) اور یونیورسٹی آف انجینئرنگ اینڈ ٹیکنالوجی (2000) سے حاصل کی۔ تعلیم مکمل کرنے کا بعد وہ میکگل یونیورسٹی کینیڈا، یونیورسٹی آف پنسلوانیا، ریاستہائے متحدہ امریکہ، لاہور یونیورسٹی آف مینیجمنٹ سائنسز، اور گورنمنٹ کالج لاہور میں درس و تحقیق کا کام کر چکے ہیں۔
