Short Bio

Dr Abubakr Muhammad leads the CYPHYNETS group at LUMS SSE. He is an assistant professor of electrical engineering at LUMS, a Jr Associate Fellow of the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy (2011-2016) and a visiting assistant professor of mechanical engineering at KAUST, Saudi Arabia (2011).

Abubakr Muhammad received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Insitute of Technology (2005). As a graduate student, he also got a masters degree in Mathematics (2005) and a masters degree in Electrical Engineering (2002) from Georgia Tech. Before that, he completed his BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, Pakistan (2000).

Abubakr does fundamental research in robotics, feedback control, cyber physical systems, hydro-systems and quantum information sciences. He is developing some novel analytical techniques at the interface of computational topology, spectral geometry, distributed algorithms and control theory for these applications.

His PhD thesis Graphs, Simplicial Complexes and Beyond: Topological Tools for Multi-agent Coordination won the Georgia Tech Sigma Xi Best PhD Dissertation Award for the year 2006. Nominations for this award are received from all departments of science and engineering at Georgia Tech. The thesis has appeared in book form in 2008.

Before joining LUMS School of Science & Engineering, he was a postdoctoral researcher first at the University of Pennsylvania and then at McGill University. He has also spent brief periods of collaboration and research at the Mathematics departments of UIUC, Stanford, ETH Zurich and most recently at KAUST.

Before starting his gradute studies, he worked in the industry on problems related to target tracking, statistical estimation, radar & sonar systems, biomedical instrumentation and pattern recognition.

ڈاکٹر محمد ابوبکر لاہور یونیورسٹی آف مینیجمنٹ سائنسز، میں تدریس و تحقیق کے شعبے سے وابستہ ہیں۔ان کی علمی اور تحقیقی سرگرمیاں بالعموم الیکٹریکل انجینیرنگ اور ریاضی میں ہیں۔ بالخصوص وہ روبالیات ، مقداریہ طبیعات ، علم ہندسہ، نیٹ ورکس، اور انجینئرنگ کےدیگر شعبوں میں درپیش آنے والے ریاضیاتی مسئلوں پر تحقیق کررہے ہیں۔ انہوں نے 2005 میں امریکہ کی ریاست جارجیا میں قائم جارجیا انسٹیٹیوٹ آف ٹیکنالوجی سے الیکٹریکل انجینیرنگ کے شعبے میں پی۔ایچ۔ڈی کی ڈگری حاصل کی۔ اس سے پہلے انہوں نے جارجیا انسٹیٹیوٹ آف ٹیکنالوجی سے ہی ریاضی اور الیکٹریکل انجینیرنگ کے شعبوں میں ماسٹرز کی سندیں حاصل کیں۔ محمد ابوبکر نے ابتدائی تعلیم لاہور کی درس گاہوں بشمول کریسنٹ ماڈل سکول (1992)، گورنمنٹ کالج (1994) اور یونیورسٹی آف انجینئرنگ اینڈ ٹیکنالوجی (2000) سے حاصل کی۔ تعلیم مکمل کرنے کا بعد وہ میکگل یونیورسٹی کینیڈا، یونیورسٹی آف پنسلوانیا، ریاستہائے متحدہ امریکہ، لاہور یونیورسٹی آف مینیجمنٹ سائنسز، اور گورنمنٹ کالج لاہور میں درس و تحقیق کا کام کر چکے ہیں۔
