Faculty Openings in Electrical Engineering (2010)
The LUMS School of Science & Engineering] (SSE) invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the ranks of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the following broadly defined areas of Electrical Engineering:
- Electronics and Embedded Systems
- Devices, Optics and Electromagnetics
- Communications, Signals and Systems
- Energy Systems and Modern Power Engineering
Applicants should have earned a doctoral degree from a top-tier university in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline. All applicants must have a strong commitment to research and teaching. Salaries are among the best in Pakistan and are determined according to the successful applicant’s accomplishments, experience and qualifications. SSE prizes engineering research of high scholarly value that also stimulates local, regional and global industry.
In all disciplines, LUMS is ranked among Pakistan’s best institutions of higher education. Its SSE, launched in 2008, will prepare engineers and scientists of the future emphasizing the concept of “no boundaries” between six areas of teaching and research: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry. The research-oriented environment will encourage students to continue for PhDs with SSE’s world class faculty.
The School plans to build a faculty of 90, with a target student-faculty ratio of less than 10:1 in steady state. Each year it admits 200 of Pakistan’s most promising high-school graduates following a rigorous, highly competitive process, and ensures a diverse student body with generous need-based financial aid. After studying a strong undergraduate core curriculum based on science and mathematics, students choose their majors at the end of their first year.
Electrical Engineering is the most heavily subscribed major in the school. Instructional and research labs are being developed in the newly constructed 300,000 square foot SSE complex, and SSE curriculum reflects a contemporary breadth and interdisciplinary flavor. Lahore is one of the subcontinent’s historic cities, with a strong cultural and intellectual life. Many faculty members choose to live on the LUMS campus, which is considered one of the Pakistan’s most attractive and secure.
Interested candidates should email their curriculum vitae, a statement of research and teaching interests, and the name of at least three references to the Faculty Search Committee at ssesearch [at] lums [dot] edu [dot] pk.
